At Olchfa, we pride ourselves on the high quality teaching and learning that takes place lesson by lesson, day by day. Teachers reflect on their practice, discuss ideas with colleagues and receive appropriate training. We also listen to what our pupils are telling us.
As a result, lessons are well paced and stimulating and conducted in supportive yet challenging environments. Clear feedback is provided to ensure pupils make expected progress.
We are always looking to adopt initiatives to improve learning. Our iLearn curriculum is an example of this pioneering spirit. iLearn ensures subjects work collaboratively in order to develop the skills required for effective learning: literacy and numeracy, personal effectiveness, thinking skills, creativity, enterprise, problem solving and digital literacy.
The KS4 curriculum is designed to offer our pupils a wide choice of subjects in addition to the compulsory elements taught at this level. To complement the formal curriculum, we run a weekly Enrichment programme where pupils engage in cultural, creative, healthy living and community activities.
We welcome KS5 students from all over Swansea. The post 16 programme of study at Olchfa includes a broad selection of subjects and the Welsh Baccalaureate Level 3 course. We also collaborate with other sixth form centres in the area so that our students have access to further courses. The sixth form may be large but every effort is made to support and guide each individual student so that they realise their potential.
