Mock Examinations Student Letter Nov/Dec 2021

Dear Student

This year's mock examinations  will take place on the following dates:

  • Year 11 - Monday 6 December to Friday 17 December

  • Year 12 and Year 13 - Monday 29 Nov to Friday 10 Dec

A full schedule for mock examinations can be accessed by following this link.

At present, we are expecting a full examination series in the summer and mocks are an important part of your preparation for these examinations. Mocks provide an opportunity for you to develop your ability to achieve the best outcomes in external examinations.  Assessments of this nature also give us an opportunity to share valuable feedback with you about your performance in formal exam situations.

We do, however, have a duty to inform you that schools have been asked to start planning contingency assessment arrangements for summer 2022. This means we have to gather evidence that can be used as part of our grading process, if required. Mock examination results will be retained as part of this evidence base. If the summer exam series is cancelled as a result of the pandemic, school-based assessments (including mocks)  will be used to support a holistic judgement of a centre determined grade. We will always inform you if an assessment (in class or otherwise) may be used in this way.

The forthcoming mock examinations will test content and skills that you have been taught. You will be able to demonstrate what you know and what you can do.  Individual teachers will discuss this with you and, in addition, we have provided a useful guide to support effective revision that can be accessed here. Please note that although teachers will do all they can to prepare you for your examinations, it is always the case that you should also work independently to revise content and practise skills, if you are to achieve your potential.

It is very important that you take the mock examinations seriously and avoid missing any sessions unless it is absolutely necessary. In the case of absence due to illness/isolation or other authorised circumstances, you will be given one opportunity to sit an alternative but equivalent mock examination in place of any that you have missed. If you miss a second mock examination opportunity we will not be able to provide any further sittings.

We know you may have concerns about mock examinations. In light of this, we would like to reassure you that we will do all we can to support you. Please contact your Learning Leader or Pastoral Guidance Worker if you have any questions or concerns.

Yours sincerely

Olchfa Assessment Team
